Regulators regulate, and if there’s any government office that’s good at coming up with new regulations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is one of the top contenders.

The regulations will have economic effects (read: your wallet or even your job), sometimes with minimal environmental benefit.

A new report on the EPA pegs Michigan as getting hit harder than all but four other states. Expect electricity rates to go up at least 19 percent; state and local government to lose $1.7 billion in revenue; manufacturing output to decline by $1.9 billion; and over 25,000 jobs at risk.

The report comes from the professional agitator’s evil group of the week, the American Legislative Exchange Council. But if you’re not scared off, read it, and you’ll find that many of the numbers therein come from the EPA itself. The report throws in some numbers from other government agencies for good measure, estimates that call into question the benefits touted by Big Green.
