In 1978, California’s Proposition 13 set off a taxpayer revolt that arguably launched a conservative movement that among other things sent Ronald Reagan to the White House. Might the outcome of a ballot proposal in today’s election in Missouri signal something equally significant?

In a number of states, groups have put together efforts to challenge ObamaCare through enacting laws or constitutional amendments that say citizens shall not be forced to purchase health insurance. That strikes at the individual mandate in ObamaCare, by which the feds say that we must purchase a specific product from private businesses, simply as a condition of being alive.

Such laws, modeled after the “Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act” assembled by a group of conservative and libertarian legislators nationwide, have been enacted by legislatures in five states already. Missouri was the first state to put the idea up for a popular vote.

It looks like Proposition C, as the measure is called in Missouri, will easily pass.

Will other states follow?
