TheĀ Michigan Golf Course Owner’s Association has endorsed Rick Snyder for governor.

Will it make a difference? There are still a lot of golfers left in the state.

The “Golf Blogger,” based in Washtenaw County, says this is probably the first time the association has made a political endorsement of any sort.

Sure, the endorsement plays to the stereotypes that equate “wealthy,” “Republican” and “golfer.” (Never mind that President Obama is a pretty good golfer and many wealthy people vote Democrat.)

But it may also speak to the desperation that the owners feel. Greens fees and club memberships are after all discretionary purchases, and the dismal Michigan economy can’t be good for business. No wonder why the owners are desperate for some public policies and state budgets that boost personal incomes. Whether Synder can deliver them is another question.
