David Boaz reminds us that Steven Chu, the secretary of energy, has won a Nobel Prize in physics. In other words, he’s a super-duper smart guy. I am impressed by Chu’s knowledge of physics. But of anything else? That’s another story.

Chu, remember, is the guy who said of the ban, “We are taking away a choice that continues to let people waste their own money.” And he thinks that is a good thing.

I can appreciate the amazing things that highly educated people can contribute to our country, as well as the hard work they have performed to get their advanced degrees. (I know; I have one myself.) But Chu apparently flunked the kindergarten lesson in humility. Then again, isn’t that the chief problem with contemporary liberalism anyway? “We’re smart. We know better than you. We’re going to use the power of government to make you do things our way.”

And they say conservatives are intolerant and small-minded.
