Welcome to another edition of The Daily Grope, a collection of items about security theater that have come my way.

First, Canada has problems with airport security, too. This story deals with whether women who wear an Islamic veil should be asked to show their faces to security personnel.

Gene Healy says we’ve been bitten by hysteria; “when every bungled attack — no matter how inept — gets the screeching siren treatment on Drudge, what do you expect that political dynamic to produce? Sober, sensible policy?” Good question.

Chris Christie, governor of New Jersey, has joined the chorus of those criticizing the new TSA regime: “We have to find a balance here, but I think the TSA at this point has erred on the wrong side of that balance.”

Public opinion: 64 percent favor the peekaboo scanners, but 70 percent favor profiling, something the TSA isn’t doing.

There’s a little black humor in a cartoon on preparing your child for the TSA.
