Fred Upton, the Republican responsible for setting in place the impending ban on the incandescent light bulb, is getting more attention, this time fromĀ Politico, which notes that his rival for the chairmanship of the House committee with jurisdiction over energy policy is hoping to score some political points.

Politico says that Upton, who hails from Michigan’s Sixth district (Kalamazoo/Benton Harbor) has defended the ban, saying it’s not made up out of thin air, but was created “worked with both industry and environmental groups to come up with a standard that made sense and was doable.”

Dear readers, that is the hubris of power on display: if we can rationalize a law, then it’s good to go, the written Constitution be damned.
